The National Police have arrested four people after breaking up a criminal cell that was smuggling marijuana and hashish from San Pedro del Pinatar in Murcia and Orihuela to other countries. The network used transportation businesses to transfer packages of drugs, precisely vacuum-sealed, to nations like Belgium and Canada. Police found 106 kilogrammes of marijuana and hashish hidden in a house in Orihuela.
There were several signs that members of this criminal cell regularly went to different parcel delivery businesses and transported shipments of drugs to cities in other countries. The inquiry started last July. They used these shipments on a regular basis, taking particular security precautions while travelling to look for signs of police enforcement.
Last September, a police operation involving many National Police units and the San Pedro del Pinatar Local Police broke up the criminal cell. Two properties in San Pedro del Pinatar and Orihuela underwent searches as a result of this operation.
In Orihuela, National Police agents confiscated drugs, including 81 kilos of marijuana buds and about 25 kilos of hashish.
The agents took the drugs in tightly sealed packaging, equipped with systems to prevent their discovery. The inquiry found that more than 120 kilos of marijuana were sent to Belgium and Canada.
Police arrested four males for their involvement in a criminal group and drug sales. They were then taken to court. There could be further arrests related to these events.
