Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday October 14th, a car and a campervan crashed head-on on the N-332 national highway, at the entrance to the Santa Pola Lighthouse. A 72-year-old English woman who lived in Orihuela Costa died. A car heading towards Alicante crashed head-on with a campervan coming the other way only a few minutes before 2:00 p.m. The crash trapped both drivers in their vehicles, so firefighters had to come to get them out.
An emergency helicopter, a SAMU team, Local Police and Guardia Civil officers, and firefighters were all sent to the scene to help. The person who was driving the car was still alive after the incident, but they had a heart attack. Her pulse could not be recovered despite attempts to revive her, and her death was certified at the site. The 54-year-old Belgian guy who drove the motorhome was hurt badly and rushed to the hospital. His wife, who was also present, was not hurt. There were a lot of traffic backups on the N-332 because of the collision. These bottlenecks lasted from the time of the accident until about 5:30 p.m., when the tow truck took the damaged RV away. The Institute of Forensic Medicine took care of the victim’s body about 5:00 p.m.
