The National Police are looking into whether the body parts found on Tuesday October 14th, on Els Molins beach in Dénia belong to a migrant from a boat that had capsized. The fact that the victim was wearing an Algerian life jacket is the key piece of evidence that supports this claim. The absence of the head and hands suggests that the body has been at sea for an extended period. The currents may have brought it to this part of the Dénia shore.
A man walking his dog on the beach found the bright orange life jacket and later said that it was tied to a half buried human limb. After the neighbour called, both the National and Local Police came. It took an excavator to dig up the whole body.
Sad background
The coastlines of the Marina Alta have had to deal with the ongoing drama of immigration in the Mediterranean before. The case that started in March 2023 was especially horrible. Fishing nets off Dénia and Xàbia drew up to seven immigrants from a small boat that had left an Algerian village and wrecked before reaching Ibiza.
