Guardia Civil officers have arrested a 30-year-old woman in Montroi (Valencia) on suspicion of two property crimes. She is accused of stealing a €130,000 tractor unit parked in a vacant lot in the Alicante town of Villena and a semi-trailer loaded with 32 pallets of olive and sunflower oil worth another €40,000 in Aspe. A few days later, authorities found both objects in an industrial area in Getafe (Madrid), but their payload was missing.
She is also accused of invading someone’s privacy by putting a GPS tracker on a truck owned by an appliance firm in the town of Massalavés in the Valencian region. She likely pretended that the merchant’s car broke down to distract him while an accomplice placed the device under the car. But an employee of the company surprised the man, which stopped him from robbing again.
The Guardia Civil has said that the first incidence began in May of this year, when the Investigation Area of the Main Post of Villena learnt of the theft of the tractor head. The Guardia Civil made this claim in a statement.
The owner told the police that the car had a GPS and that the last known location was on a rural road in El Rebolledo, Alicante. When they got there, detectives found the gadget broken and concealed in the bushes.
At the same time, officers found out that the semi-trailer full of 32 pallets of olive and sunflower oil had been taken from Aspe that same night. Later, the Getafe industrial estate was found to have both the tractor unit and the semi-trailer, but the cargo could not be found.
As the inquiry went on, detectives were able to find a pattern of illegal behaviour in the inmate and her accused collaborator, a 38-year-old man, who has been referred to the appropriate judicial authority. It’s said that the woman drove her own car to numerous industrial estates to pick out possible targets.
They put a geolocation device on the transport van to keep an eye on its exact location once they found the items they were interested in. Later, they would show up in the early morning hours to plunder the place, taking advantage of the fact that businesses were closed and there was no security.
Possible frustrated theft in Massalavés
During the investigation, it was found that the woman had reportedly gone back to Massalavés, but the robbery that was suspected was stopped. Officers were able to find the car that the accused allegedly used and arrest her on September 19 in the Valencian town of Montroi. They did this by looking into the case and reviewing several pieces of evidence.
The Picassent Duty Court authorised the detainee’s release on bond, and the Villena Investigative Court is now in charge of the probe.
The investigation continues due to the discovery of the detainee’s accused accomplice, who remains missing. Because of this, further arrests may happen as part of this operation, which is called “Trattore.”
