A patrol from the Maritime Proximity Police Station, which was checking the Astilleros Bridge for safety, stopped a high-end car. Three people were inside, and a check of their documents was needed. On Monday, October 20th, at 1:00 p.m., the event took place.
Finding fake money
Inside the car, the police found a suitcase with 200,000 euros in it, all in bundles of 50-euro notes. In the boots was a note counting machine.
At first sight, the banknotes looked real, but when we looked more closely, the police saw that they didn’t have several of the features that legal tender banknotes have, such watermarks and holograms. So, it was evident that they were fake. The police asked the people in the car where the money came from, but they couldn’t give a clear answer, which only made the patrol’s suspicions worse.
Lastly, the authorities searched the people inside the car. One of them had €4,750 in cash, which was made up of 43 €100 notes and nine €50 notes, all of which looked like real money. They also had a fancy Breitling watch.
Arrests
Because of all these things, the police have detained EG, a 41-year-old man, and two women, OC. S and IT, both 35 years old, who are accused of forgery.
Statistics for the Local Police
The Valencia Local Police have been called to 186 cases of fake goods this year. Those that have to do with identity documents and textiles are especially interesting.
The Poblats Marítims is where most of the interventions have taken place, with more than a third of them being reported there.
