A fire that broke out at a man’s home in the Juan XXIII Segundo Sector neighbourhood of Alicante just before midnight left him with significant injuries. He was 69 years old. Several local police officers and a neighbour saved him and took him outdoors. The neighbour also needed medical assistance for breathing in smoke.
The National Police also helped get the injured man to the ambulance. He was a big man, and his weight made it hard to rescue him. The cause of the fire is still unknown. The following morning, the Forensic Police looked around the house to try to figure out what happened.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Monday October 20th, the 112 Emergency Service said there was a fire. The fire started on the fourth storey of a structure on the Arcipreste de Hita Passage. The first people to get there were policemen from the Alicante Local Police. They saw flames and a lot of smoke pouring from the house that was on fire.
The officers walked up to the fourth floor of the building and told everyone who lived there to leave. When they got to the fourth floor, they found a 69-year-old guy lying on the floor, half-conscious, and with burns on his back.
Five police officers had a hard time lowering the victim because he was so big. A neighbour of the hurt man also helped the police with this. While they were lowering the hurt man, units from the National Police showed up and helped. The officers could hear minor explosions emanating from the burning house while all of this was going on.
Leaving
When the police officers got to the bottom floor, they saw rubble falling and had to seek cover for a few seconds before continuing to carry the injured victim. After the debris stopped falling, they moved the hurt individual to a place with less smoke and waited for medical help to come and take him to the hospital.
The victim was treated by the Emergency Medical Services (SAMU). In addition to having burns, he had also been poisoned by breathing in smoke. He was moved to the Doctor Balmis General Hospital in Alicante in critical condition when he was stable.
Medical staff also helped a neighbour who had smoke poisoning, although the rescuers didn’t need help at first. The fire caused a lot of damage to the house before it was put out.
