The Diari Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV) has published the decision of the Regional Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory to give out €1,150,000 in grants to groups that protect and care for animals, as well as those that work to protect biodiversity and the environment and improve habitats.
This is the most money the Generalitat has given to groups that safeguard animals and the environment for the second year in a row.
So, two financing lines have been set up: one for €900,000 and the other for €250,000, depending on what kind of action is being funded. The idea is to let all NGOs and groups start projects to safeguard animals or wildlife.
Programs for volunteers
Volunteer groups get money to help elders take care of their dogs, to help the pets of individuals who are sick and in the hospital and don’t have family to care for them, and to aid the pets of individuals who are in dangerous situations.
In the same way, animal therapy will be pushed for patients in nursing homes and hospitals, as well as pet care for individuals who have died and don’t have any family.
The grants also cover outreach activities, environmental education and training, putting up nesting boxes for birds and bats, and projects that help keep ecosystems in balance, especially in areas where species are protected or endangered.
In reaction to animals being left behind, the call includes help with vet bills, trips to clinics, sterilisation programs for cat colonies, and support for foster homes with the goal of reaching “zero abandonment.”
