On Saturday night, October 25th, a boat with 14 Algerian immigrants arrived off the coast of Elche, near the Arenales del Sol area. The Red Cross said that they are adult men who are in good health.
Around midnight, a worker at a cafe in Arenales del Sol called the National Police to say that four men covered in sand had come in to get coffee. This set off the alert.
The National Police first identified seven people on the boat and took them to the temporary foreigners’ care centre (CATE) in Alicante. The Guardia Civil found the other seven migrants in Santa Pola hours later. They were also transferred to the same centre for custody and administrative processing.
The Red Cross helped the 14 guys in the port of Alicante, where they got their first medical care and other help. According to the same sources, the intervention happened early on Sunday morning, around 4:00 a.m.
