Two people were hurt when they breathed in smoke from a fire in the meter box of an apartment block in Dénia, Alicante. Around 11:40 a.m., members of the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium were able to put out the fire and are still working to do so.
Firefighters were called to Calle Moixent in Dénia at about 11:05 a.m. to put out the fire. The fire started in the meter box at the entryway to the building.
A man who called the fire department said that there was a lot of smoke coming from the building and that some residents couldn’t get out of the building because the stairs were full of smoke. There was even a man on the balcony who couldn’t get out.
When the firefighters from Dénia Park got there, they got the person who was stuck on the terrace out. The Consortium firefighters said the fire was under control at about 11:40 a.m.
The Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU) said that they sent a SAMU ambulance to the location, where two people were treated for smoke inhalation. There was no need to move to a hospital.
The fire service has sent out a command headquarters unit with a sergeant, a fire engine with a firefighter, and a heavy urban pump with five firemen.
