The documentary Welcome, Mr. Martin will be shown in Villajoyosa tonight, Tuesday, October 28th. It is about a vacation that Paul McCartney, his wife Linda, their three daughters, and Denny Laine took in the Montíboli Hotel in June 1972.
Homo Videns made the movie, and À Punt will show the Valencian version next year. Because many of the documentary’s main characters, who live in the municipality and in Benidorm, will be there, the presentation is likely to be the most emotional.
The event will start at 7:00 p.m. at the Llar del Pensionista auditorium. Admission is free until the room is full. You can reserve invitations at the Tourist Office (C/ Colón, 40) or by email
Welcome, Mr. Martin goes to Montíboli 50 years later to try to put together the story of this event via the perspective of Antonio Martínez, a Beatles fan who has been looking into it for over 25 years.
A story given by people who encountered the former Beatle and his family during that time (waiters, musicians, journalists, neighbours, etc.) and how that visit changed their life in the long run.
This is not a musical biography of McCartney; it is a documentary that shows the more human side of Paul and Linda. The focus is on these unnamed people, who take the documentary to a much more personal and emotional level than a simple biographical reconstruction.
The title of the documentary comes from the name he used to try to keep out of the spotlight when he was there, “Míster Martin,” and the fact that some of the stories in the film are told in a Berlanga-like way.
