The Official College of Physicians of Alicante (COMA) made a mistake that let Dr. JHE do plastic operations in two clinics in Alicante. In 2020, they found him guilty of malpractice and sexual harassment, leading to his ban from working in the UK.
For now, the transfer ends a successful career on the Costa Blanca, where he had a wonderful reputation after 35 years of work.
The doctor, who also works at the Perpetuo Socorro Hospital in Cartagena, kept the punishment that meant he could never wear a white coat again in the UK behind that veneer.
In 2020, the UK Medical Tribunal Service found that the Argentinean put breast implants in a patient “against her will.”
The court’s order to take it off the British medical registry said that the woman had asked for a breast treatment that entailed taking out her present implants and had made it clear that she did not want them put back in.
According to the investigation, the court also records that he informed the patient at a follow-up visit, “I think your breasts are beautiful, even if you’re not happy with them.”
He is said to have touched her hand and knee, tried to kiss her on the cheek and made sexually suggestive comments, but he denied this to British regulators, according to Bad Practice.
Warning failed
Sources at COMA say that this is the sole case in the whole College of a doctor being disqualified in another country.
The doctor has been practising for years in operating rooms in Alicante and London. They are sorry that his licence “should have been cancelled at the time” of his crime.
COMA ignored the warning from the European Union’s Internal Market Information System (IMI), which was sent out the same week that the state of alarm was announced. This caused a lot of administrative complexity.
The same sources say that the doctor utilised “a trick” that made it “almost impossible” to see this warning.
The multinational investigation Bad Practice, which was organised by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and lasted for months, has revealed the Argentine as one of the hundred specialists.
