A complicated rescue operation took place in Callosa de Segura after a hiking excursion. The Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium had to rescue five girls, three of whom were minors, who became stuck on a perilous part of the Plana road.
The group called in at 3:15 p.m. to say they couldn’t keep going on the walk because one of the hikers had fallen and they didn’t know how badly. The Consortium’s Mountain Rescue Team and the Alfa1 helicopter were sent to the region in response.
When they got there and found the gathering, they sent two flights to get the five young women out.
The operation included officers from both the Local Police and the Guardia Civil. Emergency services stress how important it is to plan mountain routes carefully, examine how hard the trip is, and be very careful in steep locations.
