Austrian Airlines, the national airline of Austria and a member of the Lufthansa Group, will start flying again to Alicante-Elche Airport in the summer of 2026. This will be the first time the airline has flown there in 22 years.
On April 1st, 2026, the airline will start flying between the Costa Blanca and Vienna again. There will be two flights a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays. Austrian Airlines’ Airbus A320 will fly this route. Each aircraft has 174 seats.
Austrian Airlines is bringing back a route it used to fly until 2004, when it carried 52,256 passengers between the two cities. The airline flew a number of old planes during that time, namely the McDonnell Douglas and the Fokker.
Austrian will go head-to-head with Ryanair, which will fly between Alicante-Elche and the Austrian capital five times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday) in the summer of 2026. This will improve connections with El Altet, which is becoming a popular tourist destination in Central Europe.
