Torrevieja is in shock and mourning after the body of a 17-year-old girl was found at her house on Calle La Loma. The Guardia Civil say that there are no traces of violence or third-party participation, and early investigations point to the possibility of suicide.
A family member called the police at noon on Wednesday November 5th, to report the discovery. Around 6:00 p.m., the judicial committee took the body away and sent it to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Alicante for an autopsy to find out what really happened.
According to sources in the Guardia Civil, there are no signs of bullying or other comparable events at this time. The child was born in Torrevieja although her parents are from another country. She went to high school at IES Mediterráneo in the city. The school administration and the Parents’ Association have both begged for respect, privacy, and not to jump to “hasty conclusions.”
The PTA said in messages sent through different WhatsApp groups, “The school is doing everything it can, and we trust them completely to make this hard time easier for everyone at the school.”

Just a week ago, a minor in Orihuela Costa, which lies next door, was saved after she threatened to leap from a bridge over the AP-7 highway near the Zenia Boulevard retail centre. Local police and a psychotherapist were able to convince her to give up on her plan.
Last weekend, the National Police in Alicante stopped another 16-year-old boy from killing himself outside the Jorge Juan high school. His father and a friend had already sent him goodbye texts. They were able to find him in time and save his life thanks to the quick actions of a dozen officers.
