The second phase of Operation “Twilight” has been finished by the Guardia Civil of the Region of Murcia. They broke up a criminal organisation that was robbing homes and cleared up fifty crimes that happened in the region and the province of Alicante.
According to a press release from the Guardia Civil, they have solved about 50 burglaries that took place in homes in the Murcian towns of Lorca, Puerto Lumbreras, Santomera, Las Torres de Cotillas, Beniel, Águilas, and Totana, as well as in Guardamar del Segura, Dolores, and Almoradí in the province of Alicante.
The Guardia Civil started the operation at the end of last year when they noticed a rise in crime, especially home burglaries, in particular areas of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras. These events caused some social worry, they said.
The criminals did some research on their targets ahead of time. Once they were sure that no one was home, they broke through the perimeter fence and disabled the security systems, which included window and door bars and closed-circuit television systems.
Once they got inside the building, the thieves rapidly checked all the rooms for money and jewellery. In some cases, they also stole electronics.
As the operation went on, other crimes committed by the same criminal group happened, which helped investigators figure out the criminals’ schedules, methods of operation, and areas of operation. This also helped them predict the movements of the criminal group.
In February, authorities found a car in Lorca that the suspects had used. The Guardia Civil set up a surveillance operation in the area where the crimes were being investigated, with help from multiple units of the Lorca Local Police. The three suspects were found and arrested after a high-speed chase in which they drove dangerously, putting other road users at risk and crashing into multiple police cars.
After taking the suspects to court, the Guardia Civil started the second part of the operation. The goal was to find out all the crimes that the disbanded criminal cell had committed.
The detectives’ work has made it feasible to figure out fifty crimes that happened between the end of 2023 and the arrests in February 2025 in different towns in the Region of Murcia and the province of Alicante.
