The National Police have detained a woman in Alicante for reportedly pouring an unpleasant liquid into her two-year-old son’s eyes over and over again for months, inflicting major damage to his eyes. Police officials have confirmed the case.
The woman is 27 years old and comes from Algeria. She has another daughter who is seven years old and blind. She may have come to Algeria in the same way as the minor, which makes investigators think she may have been a victim of the same thing in the past.
The two-year-old youngster had been in the hospital at Alicante General Hospital since August until a few days ago. During that time, his condition became a little better. The Valencian regional administration is currently in charge of him.
Police say that workers at the General Hospital were the first to think that the eye injuries were done on purpose. After following the rules, the court was told, which led to a police inquiry that ended with the mother’s detention.
The authorities are looking into the possibility that the woman has a mental illness, but they haven’t said anything else about it yet. The investigation is still going on so that all the facts may be made clear and the detainee’s guilt can be determined.
