Help
The rescue and help efforts for the driver necessitated the closure of both lanes heading towards Rojales on this road, which is the primary access road to Torrevieja, with a transit of more than 30,000 vehicles daily.
The palm tree stayed in the road until 7 p.m., which caused some traffic delays. The main concern was helping the motorist.
The palm tree fell down before the car even got there. Sadly, it hit the driver’s side of the car. The trunk was pulled by the car until it stopped near to the median.
Firefighters, the Guardia Civil, and the Local Police have confirmed that the palm tree was affected by the red palm weevil infestation concentrated in the trunk which would have been the cause of the fall, on a day with moderate winds, which could have precipitated the collapse, according to sources close to the Security Department of the Torrevieja City Council and confirm
The Torrevieja City Council takes care of the landscaping on the median strip of the CV-905 road up to the exit of the municipality, even though the route is in the region.
