The local organisation, Sueña Torrevieja, has asked the Torrevieja City Council to make urban hiking trails that connect different parts of the city and encourage people of all ages to be active. The request was made through its representative, Pablo Samper Hernández.
The goal of the plan is to promote healthy living, stimulate active ageing, and show off the cultural and ecological history of La Mata and Torrevieja. These routes would include renovated calisthenics areas , accessible spaces compatible with cycling , and information panels with data on distance, difficulty, and health tips.
“This program’s goal is to make people’s lives better by getting them to exercise and meet new people.” We want all Torrevieja residents (from the youngest to the oldest) to find an attractive and safe way to take care of their health while rediscovering their city,” stated Pablo Samper, spokesperson for Sueña Torrevieja.
The resolution also suggests that the City Council look into making these routes and spread the word about them through city channels to get more people to use them.
Samper went on to say, “In Torrevieja, we have an ageing index of over 150%, so we need to make sure that public policies encourage active and healthy ageing.”
“Urban hiking trails are a simple, cheap, and very useful way to get people moving and in touch with nature.”
Sueña Torrevieja is still pushing for ideas that focus on the health, sustainability, and quality of life of inhabitants with this project. This indicates that they are still committed to making Torrevieja a healthier, more active, and connected place.
