The Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium said that a 44-year-old paraglider died today, Saturday, November 15, 2025, when he crashed on the slope of Palomaret mountain in Petrer. The emergency call came in at 12:52 p.m. Because it was difficult to get to, the Alpha 01 rescue helicopter and the Special Rescue Group (GER) were sent. When the rescue squad got there, they saw that the parachute was open and the paraglider wasn’t moving. It was later revealed that he had died. The operation ended around 3:30 p.m.
Just a few minutes before, the same air unit, Alpha 01, had been called to Puig Campana peak in Finestrat. There, at 12:34 p.m., firemen were called to help a man in his forties who had fallen while hiking a mountain trail and hurt his leg. The helicopter and the GER (Special Rescue Group) had to be used again to get him out of the tough terrain. That operation likewise ended around 3:30 p.m.
The third call of the day came in at 12:20 p.m. from Cabeçó d’Or near Busot, where a 63-year-old woman broke her arm when she fell while climbing. The Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium sent the Alpha 01 chopper and the GER (Special Rescue Group) back out because it was hard to get to by land. The hiker was taken out of the area and put in an ambulance right away. The procedure ended at 1:24 p.m.
The Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium had to work very hard to coordinate air and mountain rescue efforts for the three events, which happened just minutes apart. Authorities said that people should be cautious when doing sports in hard-to-reach regions, especially since there are more and more sportsmen and hikers in the province.
