A family network that sold cocaine in Torrevieja on a medium scale has been broken up. The network raised suspicions since they lived a wealthy lifestyle despite not reporting any income. They lived in a beautiful home, owned four expensive cars, a fourteen-metre sailboat, and a collection of watches worth more than 150,000 euros. Along with 12 kilos of cocaine and three firearms with ammo, all of these things were taken.
The National Police have detained a 52-year-old father and his 24-year-old daughter for drug trafficking, having guns without a licence and laundering money. After looking into a few public health issues, officials from the Elche Police Station’s Judicial Police found out that a resident of a housing estate in Torrevieja might be trafficking cocaine to local dealers. The suspect didn’t say how much money he made, but he had a lot of assets.
During the inquiry, it was found that he drove a car and a high-end motorcycle that were both insured in his name but registered to other people who didn’t have driver’s licences. This is what police call “front men.” The culprit employed counter-surveillance techniques to evade police capture.
Links to the world of crime
The National Police said that the apprehended man’s friends were still very close to organised crime. The police station said that he was connected to a private garage in Torrevieja that he went to often and from which he took short trips, sometimes with bags that may have had money in them.
It was also shown that the culprit wasn’t acting alone. His 24-year-old daughter was intimately involved in the crime, functioning as a “front.” She had things and places that she bought with the money she made from her father’s drug business. In addition, she was identified as the only administrator of two firms, one that sold vehicles and the other that sold real estate and built things. She also owned four properties in Torrevieja and Orihuela.
When the crime was proven, a simultaneous arrest and surveillance operation was put into place. The man was taken into custody after he left the garage on a fancy motorbike. When he was arrested, he had roughly three and a half kilogrammes of cocaine, cash, and a watch worth 17,000 euros. His daughter was taken into custody close to their home.
Weapons, narcotics, and searches were seized
Search warrants were carried out at both the house and the garage. More than nine kilogrammes of cocaine were found there, as well as three firearms with multiple magazines and bullets. Some of these were buried in the trunk of an abandoned automobile. Five luxury cars, eight Rolex watches, electronic gear used to get over police checkpoints, vacuum-sealing machinery, and accurate scales were also taken from the house.
It was also found out during the operation that the suspects possessed a 14-metre sailboat that was docked in the port of Torrevieja. A search warrant was carried out aboard the ship, and papers were uncovered that are useful to the investigation. The court has taken the sailboat.
The Duty Magistrate’s Court of Torrevieja has ordered the temporary detention of one of the inmates.
