Two men, ages 23 to 59, have been arrested by the National Police in Gandia for allegedly abandoning children, helping others immigrate illegally, and committing fraud against the government. The accused men’s goal was to have the youngster put under the care of the state Administration, which would provide him legal residency and protection status. This makes it easier for families to get back together and get indirect state aid.
A relative left a 15-year-old child at the police station in Gandia earlier this month, which started the investigation. At first, the case was started as a child protection case to make sure the boy was safe and healthy. He was sent to a juvenile prison centre in a nearby town.
During the investigations, possible signs of different crimes were found. This is why agents from the Local Brigade of Immigration and Borders of Gandia did more investigations and found out that the affected person had travelled from his home country to France with his parents and then been moved to Gandia, where he was left alone with the help of a cousin and an uncle, without telling any authorities or bodies.
Because of this, the two family members were arrested as essential accomplices, and the police kept looking for their parents.
The inmates, who had never been in trouble with the law before, are now in court.
