Forty-five firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Service (SEIS) who completed their training at the municipal academy were sworn in as career civil servants, marking the culmination of the process that began with the publication of their appointments in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM) on November 6th. The City Council indicates that the new personnel are now completely integrated into the SEIS’s shifts and operational services.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Murcia City Hall, presided over by the Councillor for Urban Development and Smart City, José Guillén. The event was attended by the Councillors for Open Government, Economic Promotion and Employment, Mercedes Bernabé, and for Mobility, Economic Management and Contracting, José Francisco Muñoz, who were present to welcome the new firefighters as they officially joined the municipal staff.
The newly appointed officers enhance the security and emergency services sector established by the City Council in recent months. In conjunction with this promotion, the City Council is actively working on the development of academies and training programs aimed at equipping the Fire and Rescue Service (SEIS) with specialised personnel, including the 22 emergency drivers whose training is nearing completion.
The academy has incorporated a thorough theoretical and practical training program focused on prevention, fire intervention, rescue, equipment handling, and operational practices in real facilities and outings, aiming to ensure complete training and adaptation to the service’s protocols.
The inclusion of these 45 firefighters strengthens the City Council’s strong dedication to safety and emergency response. Guillén emphasised that after months of intensive training, they are now permanently joining one of the most demanding and essential services for the protection of all Murcia residents.
José Francisco Muñoz commended the dedication of the new professionals and emphasised the significance of ongoing modernisation and enhancement of municipal services. Today, we are advancing in the establishment of a robust and efficient operational framework, ready to address the demands of an expanding municipality. “He emphasised that coordination between departments and responsible planning are essential for ensuring a quality public service.”
The inclusion of these 45 new firefighters is a key element of a municipal strategy aimed at enhancing security and emergency services. This approach integrates the recruitment of new personnel, stabilisation processes, and continuous improvement of internal training. In February, 25th new corporals, sub-officers, and sergeants joined the Murcia City Council’s Fire and Rescue Service. Additionally, on July 14th, 57 local police officers became part of the force.
The Murcia City Council has increased its workforce by over 830 new personnel across various categories within the fire and local police forces, as part of the Public Employment Offers from the past decade, spanning from 2015 to 2025.
Guillén also noted that only a few weeks ago, the Negotiation Committee sanctioned the addition of 66 new officers who will bolster the Citizen Security and Emergency sector. Their official integration is scheduled for 2026, following approval from the Governing Board and the municipal Plenary.
The municipal workforce consists of over 3,300 employees spread across 119 departments. The City Council is making progress with these appointments, aiming for a more efficient and responsive administration that better serves the needs of Murcia’s residents.
