As part of the Orihuela Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan, the Councillor for Tourism, Gonzalo Montoya, has announced the initiation of a contract for the supply, installation, and commissioning of four new parking facilities for electric bicycles, which will feature charging and parking points.
Prime locations
The parking facilities will be strategically positioned at essential locations across the city, guaranteeing both accessibility and efficiency. The Councillor for Tourism, Gonzalo Montoya, highlighted that “strategic locations have been selected—the UMH campuses in Desamparados and Salesas, the RENFE train station, and the El Palmeral Sports Center—to encourage sustainable transportation at essential points for transit, study, sports, and rail connections.”
This initiative aims to enhance sustainable transportation options for visitors and residents of Orihuela alike. Every unit will feature a modular, enclosed parking space. Montoya stated, “These are secure, covered parking facilities with minimal visual impact, designed to be fully integrated into the city and completely energy self-sufficient thanks to the use of solar power.”
Each parking area will accommodate the parking and charging of up to ten electric bicycles, providing a clean and efficient transportation option. “This promotes clean mobility alternatives,” the councillor remarked.
Montoya highlighted the significance of the project for the municipality’s development, stating, “With this initiative from the Department of Tourism, we are progressing in transforming Orihuela into a more sustainable, modern, and accessible tourist destination.”
