The National Police have broken up a criminal cell based in Torrevieja (Alicante) that is said to have broken into at least 26 residences in Cartagena and Elche.
People involved marked the residences with a thread of clear glue so they could see when people came in or out and then used special tools to get inside.
The police stations in Cartagena, Elche, and Murcia have all worked together to investigate after noticing a rise in burglaries utilising the “invisible thread” method.
The criminal group put someone in charge of picking out buildings and finding dwellings. This person would leave a string of clear glue on the doorframe to see if people were moving about.
Hours later, other members of the group, who were experts at opening doors and knew a lot about how locks worked, went back to the properties that were targeted. They may change the locks without making noise or creating obvious damage by using different methods like bumping, magic key picking, or impressioning.
With the help of the Citizen Security units, the investigators were able to find the criminal group in Cartagena early on October 26th. They then arrested four of its members.
After searching three properties in Pilar de la Horadada, Torrevieja, and Orihuela Costa, all in the province of Alicante, the agents were able to find a lot of stolen goods, including expensive watches, jewellery, mobile phones, and cash.
Also taken were three cars that the criminal cell used to get about and a very specialised instrument for executing crimes.
The National Police have taken the five members of this criminal group into custody. They are recognised for their high level of expertise in performing robberies and for their use of complicated methods. The judge has ordered their immediate custody.
