The investigation into the killing of a Swedish man named Christian in Torrevieja has taken a dramatic and deeply troubling turn, with two suspects now in provisional prison and at least two further individuals under scrutiny.
The case, which caused shock across the Costa Blanca in early October, is being investigated jointly by the Guardia Civil and the Policía Nacional. Christian and his partner were walking along Calle Pedro Lorca when a vehicle stopped nearby to ask for directions. As Christian took out his mobile phone, one of the occupants allegedly seized it, and the car accelerated away, dragging him approximately thirty metres before he collided violently with a waste container.
A crucial breakthrough came when investigators traced the geolocation of the stolen phone through its “Find my iPhone” function. This led officers to an area near Alicante and enabled them to identify a rental vehicle connected to the incident. Fingerprints found in the car reportedly matched several of the suspects.
Three arrests have already taken place in Alicante, while at least one additional suspect is believed to have fled Spain. Two of those detained, aged twenty-one and twenty-two, have been remanded in custody as presumed perpetrators of homicide, robbery, failing to render assistance, road-safety offences, and membership of a criminal organisation. Both reportedly have previous records for thefts and break-ins.
Christian’s partner has issued a strong statement to clarify what she witnessed. She insists that he did not voluntarily cling to the moving car; instead, she says his arm and his phone were forcibly taken, describing the event as “a brutal, cold-blooded murder”.
The case remains under active judicial investigation and is being overseen by Court Number 4 of Torrevieja.
