The National Police Unit stopped the sale of a newborn for 3,000 euros in Malaga after finding out about an illegal deal between the baby’s real mother and a couple who couldn’t have children. They made fake documents to register the baby as their own.
The Andalusian Regional Government has taken the child away and put them in a foster household, as the Ministry of the Presidency said in a statement.
The investigation started after the Territorial Delegation of Social Inclusion in Malaga obtained a temporary abandonment order for a kid who had been hospitalised at a hospital in the region.
When the biological mother met with the agents, they saw a number of inconsistencies and problems with the relationship between her and the alleged father, who was listed as such in the Civil Registry.
So, an investigation was started into an alleged offence against family relations (changing paternity) and making false documents.
The agents found out through their investigations that the biological mother had made a deal with a couple who were undergoing reproductive treatment for 3,000 euros.
The man who signed up as the father is not the biological father. He went to the Civil Registry with the mother to sign up as the father of the baby.
The investigation found that the couple had contacted the biological mother and agreed to her offer: to register the baby as their daughter and give her to them for the agreed-upon 3,000 euros once they were out of the hospital.
The police stopped this event from happening, which led to the arrest of both the original mother and the couple who wanted to adopt the child.
The people involved are said to have committed a felony by changing important parts of the baby’s birth certificate in the Civil Registry, which is a public record.
