The National Police have arrested four people in the Alicante towns of Benidorm and l’Alfàs del Pi. Three of them are men and one is a woman, and they are all between the ages of 33 and 74. They are accused of crimes relating to prostitution and public health, according to a statement from the Police Headquarters.
The investigation started after a victim said that four distinct people had sexually abused them at different times.
A woman went to the National Police headquarters in Benidorm to report that she had been sexually exploited. She had been helped by an NGO that works with women in prostitution to get there.
She revealed in her statement that she came to Spain in October 2024 and lived with a family member. She started working in l’Alfàs del Pi caring for old people after 15 days. During that time, she met a man and they became friends and moved in together.
The man kept her passport after they broke up and told her to work as a prostitute by putting up ads with her image to get clients. The victim even did sexual things for free because the man retained all the money.
A little while later, she encountered a guy and a woman who told her to go back to becoming a prostitute. They worked together to find clients in the area around the residence where the victim offered sexual services.
The man and woman were in charge of collecting the money and giving out drugs to keep the workdays going and the activity going. Sometimes, payments were made in drugs, which the couple also kept.
During this time, a friend of the couple who was a regular client suggested that she keep working as a prostitute under his supervision. They decided to share the money they made. Also, the victim had to sell drugs and sexual enhancers to anyone who asked for them.
In a short amount of time, this man had complete control over the victim. He set her schedules, limited her independence, had her always be available, and even made her work hard and have sex with him. He also took the money she made from her work.
The Immigration and Borders Brigades of Alicante and Benidorm worked together on the investigation that resulted to the arrest of the four people who were thought to be responsible. The arrests took place in the municipalities of Benidorm and l’Alfàs del Pi. At the time of his arrest, one of the people apprehended had an outstanding warrant.
Two inspections were done in the places where the victim had been sexually exploited throughout the operation, but no other possible victims were identified. The officers found that each of the detainees had taken part in different parts of the exploitation process, knowing what was going on and wanting to make money.
The four people who are being held are being looked at for crimes that have to do with prostitution and public health. The Benidorm Duty Court is now in charge of the case, and one of the people who was arrested has already gone to court.
