Yesterday, Monday December 1st, Orihuela woke up to find a body floating in the Segura River, which runs straight through the city. The area around the weir at the Puente Nuevo (New Bridge), which is also called the glass bridge of Entrepuentes, is behind the casino.
The Provincial Fire Consortium received a report at 8:48 a.m. indicating the discovery of a body in the river. A sergeant, a corporal, and eight firefighters from the Orihuela station swiftly got ready with several types of underwater rescue gear.
So, they started looking along the riverside until they found the body. They found it again at 10:30 a.m., and the body, which was already in a bad stage of decomposition, was given to the Judicial Police.
The National Police are looking into the death of a guy whose body was found to find out who he was. According to police sources, the body did not appear to have been harmed in any way. An autopsy, on the other hand, will show what killed the person and how long the body had been in the riverbed.
The Judicial and Scientific Police sought to find out who the dead person was as they waited for the body to be taken away. The protocol that goes with it was also put into action, which includes checking the area around it and blocking off the zone.

Man missing in Orihuela
While waiting for identification, it was still unclear if he was the same man who went missing on November 24th, when his absence was reported in the municipality of Joaquín ON. People reported the 47-year-old missing. At that time, the National Centre for Missing Persons sent out an alert to discover this individual. He was described as having a slender build, being around 1.80 metres tall, with brown eyes and grey hair. He was wearing clothes that were not made public at the time he went missing.
After getting the report, the usual search and location protocol was put into action right away. The official poster was sent out on social media and other institutional channels to ask for help from the public. The National Police worked with other law enforcement authorities to run the investigation.
We don’t know yet if the person fell into the river by mistake, jumped in on purpose, or was pushed in. There are still many options, and none of them have been ruled out.
The Ministry of the Interior’s National Centre for Missing Persons (CNDES), on the other hand, has highlighted how important it is to share information swiftly. They have also reminded everyone that even the smallest piece of information might be important to the investigation.
In these situations, the authorities ask that anyone who might know where they are phone the National Police right away at 091. The official CNDES website also has information. The first few hours after someone goes missing are very important, so the public needs to help.
