The Government Delegation against Gender Violence said yesterday, Wednesday December 3rd, that the death of 29-year-old Oriana, who was allegedly stabbed by her spouse on Wednesday in a home in the city of Alicante, was an act of gender-based violence. The Ministry of Equality spoke out against the murder in a statement, saying that there had been no previous reports against the suspect, who killed himself by hanging himself after the act.
According to the same sources, this case brings the total number of women killed because of gender-based violence to 42 in 2025 and 1,337 since 2003, when this statistics first started being gathered. The announcement said, “the victim had a minor daughter,” and “the number of children who have lost their mothers to gender-based violence rises to 23 in 2025 and to 492 since 2013.”
Ana Redondo García, the Minister for Equality, and Carmen Martínez Perza, the Government Delegate against Gender Violence, have once again strongly condemned and rejected this femicide. They have also sent their complete solidarity to the victim’s family and friends. The Minister and the Delegate are both asking all institutions, governments, and society as a whole to do everything they can to step in and stop more deaths. At the same time, Pilar Bernabé, the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, said on her social media page that she “strongly condemns the murder of Oriana, a victim of gender violence.” “My sincere condolences to her, her small kid, and the whole family that is heartbroken. She said, “Neither a separation, forced cohabitation, nor the lack of previous reports can be used as an excuse. Sexism kills, and we will keep fighting it.”
Luis Barcala, the mayor of Alicante, has condemned the terrible murder of the 29-year-old lady in the greatest terms possible. He has also called on residents and institutions to come together and fight against the scourge of unacceptable gender violence with all their might. The Alicante City Council has designated tomorrow, Thursday, an official day of sorrow. Flags will fly at half-mast, and people are asked to congregate in front of City Hall at noon to observe three minutes of silence to condemn this latest femicide.
