At 4:37 p.m. on Friday, December 5th, there was a serious car collision on the N-340 at kilometre point 696 in the municipality of Cox. A huge emergency response team from the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters of Alicante and the health services of the Valencian Government were called in.
The crash involved two cars, according to sources from the Consortium. One of the people inside the car was in a serious condition and couldn’t get out, so firefighters from the Orihuela station had to rescue him.
Because two of the injured people were in such bad shape, a medical helicopter was called to quickly take them to the hospital. The medical officer ordered the ambulance to take two more injured people to the hospital. The collision hurt four people in all.
Three fire teams from the Orihuela Fire Station—UMJ, FSV, and BUP—were sent to the scene, along with paramedics, local police, and the Civil Guard. The emergency services reopened the route after completing the rescue operation and road cleanup.
