The Guardia Civil arrested a woman who was driving a car on the A-7 motorway in the municipality of Murcia, going the wrong way and with her small kid in the car. She was also over the legal alcohol limit by up to four times.
The operation started in the early hours of the morning when the 1-1-2 Emergency Room got more than a dozen calls from drivers telling them that a car was driving on the A-7 highway towards Almería in the lanes meant for vehicles going towards Murcia.
Several patrols from the Guardia Civil’s Traffic Group went to the scene right away, checked the facts, and started the Regulation Protocol for Vehicle Traffic in the Opposite Direction on divided roads.
While one patrol blocked the road to keep other cars safe, other Guardia Civil officers crossed the central reservation on foot and were able to stop the car at kilometre 601 of the A-7 highway, near the town of Alhama de Murcia. This stopped any form of traffic accident from happening. They also said that the driver’s child, who was underage, was in the car.
The officers from the Murcia Traffic Detachment of the Guardia Civil gave the driver of the car breathalyser tests. The findings showed that the driver had 1.09 and 1.04 mg/l of alcohol in their breath, which is more than four times the legal limit.
The Guardia Civil arrested the driver for these activities since they were thought to be responsible for two violations of road safety. One was for driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit (article 379.2 of the Penal Code). This crime can get you 3 to 6 months in jail or a fine of 6 to 12 months, as well as a ban on driving for more than a year and up to four years.
Driving recklessly (article 380 of the Penal Code) is another crime against road safety. It can get you six months to two years in jail and take away your right to drive for more than a year and up to six years.
