A man who was accused of trying to kill another man on the street in Ibi has been found not guilty by a court in the Tenth Section of the Provincial Court of Alicante.
Because it was shown that he acted while having a psychotic episode, he has been put in a psychiatric detention centre for up to 10 years as a safety measure.
The events that are being judged happened on June 12th, 2023. The prosecution’s indictment says that on that day, the defendant went up to the victim and stabbed him in the neck many times, almost killing him.
The Public Prosecutor knew that the defendant was acting completely differently since he had a psychotic disease and had stopped getting treatment months ago.
It was decided that this experience had a huge impact on how he saw the world and how effectively he could understand and regulate his actions.
After looking into this exemption, the Prosecutor’s Office asked for a security measure that would keep the person in a specialised centre for medical care.
During a hearing yesterday, Wednesday December 10th, the defence said they agreed with this step. This hearing came after a short preliminary hearing on December 4th. The court then made its decision verbally, saying that it agreed with the deal that the parties had come to.
