The Guardia Civil of the Region of Murcia, as part of its duties to protect the state’s finances and fight smuggling, and the Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency, with help from the Port Police of the Port Authority of Cartagena, carried out an operation outside the port facilities of the Escombreras dock in the port of Cartagena. They seized almost one hundred packs of contraband cigarettes and filed ten complaints for different crimes.
This intensified operation, which includes enforcing taxes on petroleum and tobacco as well as public safety, has been going on on the outside roads of the Escombreras dock in the Port of Cartagena. Its goal is to find any behaviour that might be related to smuggling.
The operation led to up to ten reports being filed for having drugs and illegal weapons, as well as for smuggling almost one hundred packs of cigarettes. These are all crimes covered by the Law on the Protection of Citizen Security, the General Traffic Regulations, and the Law on the Repression of Smuggling.
The operation was carried out by agents from the Guardia Civil’s Fiscal and Borders Section, Citizen Security and Canine Service, and Customs Surveillance officials from the Tax Agency. They worked with a drone unit and the Customs and Excise Administration of Cartagena, as well as the Port Police of the Cartagena Port Authority.
