Early this morning, Friday December 19th, the town of La Vila Joiosa was in the news because it was putting on a double simulation in the middle of town. A tram from Line 1, which runs between Luceros station in Alicante and Benidorm, hit an electric car on Limones Street.
The made-up catastrophe left part of the tram stuck on the viaduct over the Amadorio River. The crash with the electric car, which caught fire after the impact, happened near the end of the line.
The driver told the Alicante Tram Control Centre about the crash, which started the Self-Protection Plan. He passed out in the driver’s cabin a few seconds later and stayed there until emergency services, firefighters, and police arrived.

The simulation ended an hour and a half after it started, and everyone who took part gave it a positive review at first. Each department will do a more in-depth examination of the exercise later.

FGV’s coordination exercise
This was the beginning of the simulation that Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) did on Friday morning to test how well the unit could respond to emergencies and to put the Self-Protection Plan for collision and fire risks into action.
The practice also helped people get out of viaduct areas, learn about and test the 4100 series unit’s emergency system (which has manual extinguishers), do intervention and rescue drills with the Fire Brigade, and make sure that different outside help worked well together.
Organisations that took part
This exercise was put on by the Security and Civil Protection Unit of FGV. The people who took part were the FGV driver, control centre regulators, telecommand operator, control centre room manager (control centre technician), line technician, technical and operations management staff of Alicante Tram, USIS, technical and management staff of the Security and Civil Protection Unit, and FGV volunteer staff.
Security guards from GARDA and authorised staff from COMSA were on hand to cut off the electrical supply on the electrified track.

As for outside help, 112 Comunitat Valenciana, the Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium of Alicante, the Local Police of Villajoyosa, the Unit Attached to the Comunitat Valenciana of the National Police Corps, the Villajoyosa Guardia Civil Post, and the Emergency Medical Services-CV were all there.
