Sources close to the case say that the investigation into the murder of Christian J., a 30-year-old Swedish citizen who died from injuries he got when a car dragged him after he tried to stop his phone from being stolen in Torrevieja, is over. Two new arrests have been made, bringing the total to five.
The arrests happened at the end of last month, but they weren’t made public until now. Two brothers have just been arrested, and at least one of them was held in custody after appearing before the Torrevieja Court of Instruction Number 4, which is in charge of the matter.
After the National Police’s Special Investigations Unit (SIRLAS) looked into the case, the two suspects turned themselves up at the North District Police Station in Alicante. Police at the North Station knew this bunch of thieves well. They stole things in Alicante, Benidorm, and Torrevieja and moved around a lot. They used the same method that got Christian killed: they would approach victims, ask them for information, and then steal from them without warning.
Move to Torrevieja
The National Police took the two detainees to the Guardia Civil barracks in Torrevieja, where the two agencies worked together to run the operation. The court received them once the proceedings concluded.
The Guardia Civil’s Judicial Police Team in Torrevieja started looking into the violent theft of an iPhone that happened on Pedro Lorca Street at about 4:00 a.m. on October 3rd. Christian’s companion said that a car with three or four people of Arab descent came up to them and asked for directions to La Zenia. While the victim was giving directions, they demanded to see his phone so they could look at the map and take a picture. The victim placed his phone through a window on the right side of the car, and that’s when they sped away.

Christian, who operated a hamburger shop and was on his way home to Torrevieja with his wife, was dragged by the automobile until it hit some trash cans on the side where the victim was standing.
The man was flung out of the car and hurt badly. He was unconscious on the road and was carried by ambulance to Torrevieja Hospital. However, because of the severity of his head injury and other ailments, he was moved to Elche Hospital. He stayed there in a coma till he died on October 7th in the morning.
All of the people who were arrested are young and were first charged with murder, robbery with violence, failing to help, breaking road safety laws, and being a member of a criminal group.
Footprints
Two of the initial three people caught were held in jail, while the third, who was freed on bail, seems to not have been involved in the crime but was in the car, as the Guardia Civil recovered his fingerprints there. This same young man also named the two people who had just been detained and said that one of them was the passenger in the car and was the one who took the victim’s phone and encouraged the driver to speed up while Christian was being held.
There is a lot of proof against this person, such as the fact that the victim’s phone was linked to his SIM card in Alicante, as the Guardia Civil found out. Officers also found out that he was one of three guys that travelled to Avenida de la Estación in Alicante to pick up a rental automobile. They then utilised that car in the robbery that led to the victim’s horrific murder.
