The Guardia Civil has taken two males, ages 22 and 45, into custody for allegedly stealing over 77,000 euros by using fake fuel cards.
In September, a transport business filed a complaint about two fuel cards linked to one of its trucks that were used to make strange expenditures. This is when the inquiry started. It is said that these cards were used illegally to give fuel to other people at service stations in the provinces of Valencia and Castellón.
The Guardia Civil’s Investigation Unit in San Vicente del Raspeig started an operation in response to these events. They focused their efforts on looking at the information they had gathered during the investigation. The inquiry showed that the criminals were using the cards to fill up cars that didn’t belong to the impacted company, which allowed them to make money illegally at the company’s expense.
The examination also found that some of the refuelling was done on vehicles with foreign licence plates that then left the country. But the agents were able to fully identify the people they thought were guilty because they kept working.
Finally, the police were able to find the two criminals in the towns of Vila-real and Castelló de la Plana. They arrested them and started the legal process.
The males who were arrested, who are 22 and 45 years old and are accused of fraud, were taken before the duty judges of Vila-real and Castelló. They were ordered to be released with precautionary measures.
