A man in Alicante who kept and disseminated child pornography has been arrested. This has led to the arrest of one of the leaders of an international criminal network that makes, sells, and distributes photographs and videos of child sexual exploitation in Argentina.
Officers from the National Police apprehended a man in the province of Alicante who utilised cloud services and messaging apps to store and spread child pornography.
Investigators identified a vast number of digital files with clear child pornography content on numerous of the devices recovered at his home. Many of these files were very explicit.
There were also a lot of child pornography files found, spread out over many discussions on different instant messaging apps.
It was found that the person who was arrested was talking to a number of persons in different countries and sending them child pornography. One of these people, who lived in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, sent the detainee several sexually graphic pictures of a juvenile, claiming to have access to the youngster.
The Central Cybercrime Unit agents decided that the files were new child sexual assault material, therefore they quickly used the international contact method to find out who sent them and stop the attacks.
So, the Liaison Officer of the Spanish National Police at the Specialised Centre for Cybercrime (AC3) in AMERIPOL was contacted, and the police in Argentina quickly started an investigation that led them to the home of the person responsible for the acts being investigated. This person was arrested and their home was searched in the town of Claypole, province of Buenos Aires.
The Argentine police think he is one of the leaders of an international crime group that makes, sells, and distributes pictures and videos of sexual exploitation of minors. This group has branches in Europe and South America, and the person who was arrested in Alicante would be a member of it.
The arrest of both defendants was a big step in taking down a key section of the criminal organisation, but the investigation is still going on around the world to find and punish the other members of this group.
The Central Cybercrime Unit worked with other countries to stop the sexual exploitation of minors on the Internet. This operation was part of that work.
