The Governing Board of the Alicante City Council gave the go-ahead on Tuesday, December 23rd, for a contract worth €226,897 to buy new equipment for the Local Police. This will give police new bulletproof vests, Bluetooth-enabled motorbike helmets and riot shields.
Along with these changes, the police station in Juan XXIII will be getting a makeover, as agreed with Vox. Municipal officials say that the security force has spent 6.6 million on other modernisation projects in the last two years.
Specifically, Insigna Uniformes has been given the job of making bulletproof, cut-resistant and puncture-resistant vests with inner and outer covers for 173,368 euros. They will also make motorcycle helmets with built-in Bluetooth for 50,218 euros and riot shields with an identification label and carrying bag for 3,310 euros.
The Department of Security is promoting a series of steps to update the fleet of cars, uniforms, and personal protective equipment. One of these actions is buying specialised apparel.
The Local Governing Board also approved on Tuesday the call for an urgent public tender to contract the supply of radio communication terminals and accessories for the Local Police, Firefighters and Civil Protection, divided into three lots, with a base tender budget of 262,692.82 euros, according to the same sources.
