The National Police arrested a 48-year-old man at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport as he was trying to depart for the UK by plane. The man is wanted by UK authorities for stealing over 180,000 pounds sterling.
The UK asked for the arrest had issued an International Arrest Warrant. The General Police Headquarters’ International Fugitives Group then told the National Police of Alicante about it, since they thought the fugitive might be living in the province of Alicante.
The investigators found out that he lived on the Orihuela-Costa (Alicante). After putting up a police operation, they spotted him at the Alicante airport terminal just as he was about to board a flight to depart Spain.
Between 2018 and 2022, he committed offences in the UK that made him sought. The fugitive pretended to be a bathroom and kitchen installer and utilised corporate logos without permission to look professional and win over customers.
He would give bids and ask for a large deposit up front, but then he wouldn’t do the work or fill the orders he had agreed to. Instead, he would make excuses and put off the task.
The victims were never able to get back the money they paid since he said he would give it back, but he never did. It is thought that he cheated many consumers out of about 180,000 pounds sterling in total.
The man who was arrested could spend up to ten years in prison in the UK. He is now in the hands of the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court in Madrid, which is in charge of making sure he is extradited.
