Two people in their 30s and 32s have been arrested by the National Police in the municipality of Alfaz del Pi (Alicante) for selling and distributing drugs from a business that worked as a private smoking club.
The police said in a statement that the investigation started after officials learnt about a cannabis club in the town of Alfaz del Pi that a lot of people went to. After getting the drug, they would leave the building.
The information acquired showed that the club in question sold drugs and anyone could go there to buy them and take them home, even if they weren’t a member or partner of the group.
Initial inspections also showed that the business was pretending to be a cannabis club and was openly advertised on social media as a venue for members and visitors, which goes against the rules for groups like this.
The agents were able to corroborate that a police investigation had taken place a few years previously in the same place, where a lot of drugs, like hashish and marijuana, were taken and 12 people were arrested.
With all the information gathered, steps were taken to confirm who owned the property and who was in charge of the association. They also checked to see if the association had the right permits and licences. They found that it did not have a municipal opening licence and was not listed in the Generalitat Valenciana’s register of associations.
Selling to anyone without discrimination
During the operational phase, different types of surveillance and monitoring equipment were put in place at the locations being looked into. These showed that a lot of people were coming into the place to buy drugs and then departing after getting their dose. A lot of these people were not members of the association and were just on vacation in the area.
Through surveillance, it was found that there was a house near the business that was used to store the different drugs that were sold there and that the people being investigated lived there.
After all the work that went into the investigation, the Judicial Authority was asked for search and seizure warrants for both the residence and the business. Once these were carried out, two men who were in charge of the association were arrested.
During the searches, persons came to the premises saying they were customers, but when asked for proof of their membership in the association, none of them had any paperwork that proved they were members.
The searches found 20 vape pens with one gramme of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), 12,610 grammes of marijuana buds, 1,513 grammes of hashish, 13.5 grammes of hashish oil, 223 marijuana cigarettes, and €3,605 in cash. The people who were arrested, who are between the ages of 30 and 32, are thought to be drug traffickers and members of a criminal group. After the police did their job, they were brought before the duty magistrates in Benidorm.
