For half a million euros, the Benidorm City Council has put out a bid for the installation of 13 new bike parking spaces in the city. This deal will virtually treble the present service, which now has 12 locations around town.
The City Council has placed the project out for bids for €543,459.24, which includes VAT. The European Union’s NextGenerationEU programme is paying for this initiative as part of the “Benidorm Vision 360: Tourism Sustainability Destination Plan,” which is part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan. The work must be done within six months of the contract being signed, and companies that want to bid have until January 28th to do so.
The tender document says that the decision is based on the need to expand the network of smart and secure parking facilities because there is a “sustained increase in demand from groups such as seasonal workers and visitors who need parking solutions that guarantee the safety and accessibility of personal, conventional, and electric vehicles.”It also encourages the use of more environmentally friendly forms of transportation, which cuts down on pollution and stops cars from parking on pavements without safety safeguards.
It’s crucial to know that these bike parking lots have a public remote control system, as well as video cameras and lights inside. You can manage them using a free app for iOS and Android smartphones.
One of the City Council’s goals is to get more people to use these parking spaces more often. They saw that some people were leaving their bikes or scooters there longer than the service allowed. Francis Muñoz, the Councillor for Mobility, has previously said that owners will get a warning message to transfer their bikes or scooters out of the parking area when this happens.
Here are the planned locations for these new facilities, which you can see on the maps below: Av Ametlla de Mar; Ctra Albir; Cultural Centre (Calle Jaen); Avenida del Municipi; Old Conservatory Parking; two more on Calle de la Fragata; Plaza de España; Avenida de la Vila Joiosa adjacent to Torre Morales; Jaime I / Acacias; Guillermo Amor; Nuevo Beniardá Park and Ride; Jaime 1 / Nicaragua
