Neither the poor weather nor the people who sought to take advantage of the masses could ruin the most magnificent night of the year in Alicante. Even though it looked like it might rain, thousands of kids and families came out to see the Three Kings Parade. Behind the scenes, the National Police had a special security detail on duty to make sure that no thefts or other problems ruined the night. The operation, which was planned from the Alicante Provincial Police Station, led to the arrest of eleven people, the identification of 195 people, and the suggestion of 15 punishments. The National Police said that the tickets were given out for having drugs and carrying a knife.
The people that were arrested were wanted for a number of crimes, such as theft, robbery with violence, burglary, and having outstanding warrants. Two arrests for robbery with violence and intimidation were some of the most important events. In this example, a woman who had just been attacked walked up to a patrol car that was nearby. The people who are accused of doing this pushed her hard to steal her things. The quick action of the police led to the arrest of both suspects, who fought against being taken into custody.

A witness saw a group of people breaking into a house and forcing the door open. Two other persons were detained for breaking and entering. When the police got there, they found two men who had just changed the lock on the property so they could live there. They caught them in the act.
The special operation strengthened the police presence in the city’s busiest areas during the day, such as Avenida de la Estación, Plaza de los Luceros, Avenida Alfonso X El Sabio, Rambla de Méndez Núñez, Portal de Elche, Calle Rafael Altamira, Plaza del Ayuntamiento, and other leisure areas.
The operation included agents from the Prevention and Reaction Units, the Operational Response Group, the Canine Unit, aerial resources, the Citizen Assistance Group, and support staff from various brigades and districts of the Alicante Provincial Police Station. The Local Police also helped out.
The National Police stress that the deployment went off without a hitch and in a fully normal environment, which was the major goal of the operation: to improve public safety and make sure that Three Kings’ Night went off without a hitch.
