Loterías, which has been around for 263 years, says that it helps one million vulnerable individuals a year (elderly people, women who have been victims of gender abuse, migrants, or cancer patients) through the social organisations it works with.
It also helps sports for women, minorities, and anyone who play sports at the grassroots level. For instance, it helps Olympic and Paralympic competitors get ready for the Milano Cortina Winter Games, which will take place in a few months.
Lastly, the public firm wants to “make culture more accessible.” One of the things they are doing to do this is the “Loterías Award for short films with social themes,” which they are doing in partnership with the San Sebastián Festival, which is having its third edition this year.
The El Niño lottery draw started in 1941 and has its own name and style. It finally became the second most important draw in the Spanish National Lottery, according to the organisation. The official prize lists first used the current name in 1966.
Starting in 1942, these draws gave out refunds, and starting in 1946, they gave out rewards for matching the last digits and for refunding the winning numbers. Until 1965, all draws were held continuously using the old or traditional system. From then on, they were held using the modern or multi-drum system.
