The City Council of Villajoyosa will put in place a mechanism to restrict how many people can be on the beaches and the Colada de la Costa trail. This will improve safety, tourism management, and the quality of the visitor experience.
27 AI smart cameras will be installed to count tourists and assess capacity.
Rosa Llorca, the Councillor for Tourism, said that the system will provide operational information to help predict peak user traffic or make decisions about municipal services like cleaning or public safety.
The European Union is paying for this initiative through the Next Generation EU grants as part of the La Vila Joiosa tourism sustainability plan. The European funds are also funding the €97,000 investment, which is currently out to tender.
A special software platform will be used to manage it. This platform will let you gather information about the profiles and behaviours of tourists at the destination. Pedro Ramis, the Councillor for Smart City, said that the information will be on the City Platform so that all the data can be looked at and used to make smart choices. Managing the number of people who can use beaches and natural areas includes keeping them safe and clean. Data helps with better planning services and a better experience for both residents and visitors. According to Mayor Marcos Zaragoza, “Villajoyosa is committed to responsible tourism that protects resources, improves services, and lets people make smart choices, especially in high-pressure areas.”
