Two high-speed trains derailed after a collision in southern Spain tonight, Sunday January 18th, leaving at least twenty one people dead and scores more injured.
According to rail network operator Adif, a high-speed train heading from Malaga to Madrid derailed and crashed into a nearby track near the town of Adamuz, which is close to the city of Cordoba.
Additionally, a second train that was headed from Madrid to Huelva in the opposite way derailed.
At least 25 individuals were critically hurt, according to Andalusian emergency services, while others had minor wounds.

The incident occurred approximately ten minutes after the train departed Malaga at 18:40 local time (17:40 GMT), according to Adif. After the disaster, all rail services between Madrid and Andalusia were halted.
About 300 people were on board, according to Iryo, the private train company that ran the trip from Malaga, which verified the incident.
Many individuals were able to leave without suffering any major injuries, according to Salvador Jimenez, an RTVE journalist who was on one of the trains. The first carriage carried me. The train had actually derailed at one point, and it seemed like an earthquake. They took hammers to smash the windows, called right away to see if anyone in the health service could aid, and eventually evacuated us,” he continued.
While Andalusian regional president Juanma Moreno voiced his sympathy and solidarity for the victims and their families, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that the government was collaborating with emergency services to assist those impacted.
