Her partner stabbed Dori, 27, up to 18 times, killing her. The jury in Alicante found Guillermo guilty of the murder that took place in Alcoy in 2022.
After six hours of discussion, the nine members of the jury reached this decision. In their statement, they said that the defendant acted cruelly and planned ahead, taking advantage of the fact that he was in a position of power over the victim. They also took into account the fact that the victim was a woman.
He will now have to serve the time that the judge gave him. The prosecution wants the defendant to spend 25 years in prison: 23 years for the murder charge and 2 years for making threats. The private prosecutors want the defendant to spend between 27 and 28 years in prison, and they have added the accusation of domestic abuse.
On the other side, the defence has asked for the accused to be found not guilty, saying that he is innocent and that the crime was perpetrated by someone else who the police did not look into.
The jury didn’t believe the argument, which said that Dori didn’t have a chance to defend herself and that the two were the only occupants in the house when she was killed.
The jury does agree with the defence that he is not guilty of the threats and maltreatment that the Prosecutor’s Office and two private complaints made against him. These claims were made by the grandparents and aunts of the dead and by her father.
During the trial, Dori and Guillermo’s families have fought in public, which has made things heated in the Town Hall square.
The event
The defendant chose not to testify at the trial, which started last Monday, January 12th, in the Alicante Court. He said he couldn’t remember anything because he had amnesia.
Dori was killed between Saturday and Sunday, October 23rd, 2022. Guillermo’s screams woke up the whole neighbourhood at 2:30 a.m. “You’ve done it, you’ve done it!” the man who was now guilty kept saying. The neighbours of number 8 Calle Ferran el Catòlic Street said at the time that they didn’t hear a word from her.
A few minutes later, Guillermo’s body fell from the fifth floor, and neighbours called the police. He said he didn’t recall anything because of the fall, which he survived after a long ordeal. He gave up his opportunity to speak last after the verdict was pronounced on Tuesday.
