Maritime Rescue has stopped looking for the sailboat that departed Gandia (Valencia) on January 15th for Guardamar del Segura (Alicante) but never made it there. They are nevertheless alerting those who are sailing in the area to be on the lookout for it.
People from this group said that if they get any news about where the 9-metre-long sailboat named “Admirante” is, they will send out the ships and plane that have been looking for it for several days.
The search by water and air started on January 16th, after the wife of the ship’s only crew member said she hadn’t heard from him since the night before, when she talked to him and he said he thought he was close to Benidorm (Alicante).
On the night of January 16th, the man was able to call Maritime Rescue via 112 and say that he was on the sailboat but was adrift without an engine. He had a lifeboat, flares, and very little charge on his phone, but he couldn’t give them the exact location where he was.
The final day that a Maritime Rescue plane flew out to look for the sailboat was this Thursday. The Civil Guard radar continued to watch the region. The day before that, a ship also took part in the search.
