The National Police have detained two males, ages 23 and 25, in Valencia. They are accused of registering foreign citizens using fake rental contracts without the homeowner’s permission in exchange for money, which let them make a profit of 26,250 euros.
Last October, agents from the Provincial Brigade of Immigration and Borders of the Superior Headquarters of Valencia started looking into a woman’s complaint. She said she couldn’t register at her father’s house because there were ten people registered there who she didn’t know and who had never lived there.
The police said in a statement on Friday, January 23rd, that the agents found out that some 30 foreigners had registered at both the woman’s home and another address on the same property held by her father since 2022, for at least one year.
Also, the registered people, who were foreigners in a vulnerable administrative situation, would have paid the two men about 750 euros a year for fake rental contracts for homes where they didn’t actually live. They presented these contracts in the Municipal Register for registration, earning them a total of 26,250 euros.
The two men, one of whom has a criminal record, have been arrested for allegedly committing the crimes of document forgery and helping people enter the country illegally. They have since been released after giving their statements, but they must appear before the judicial authority when required.
