Beginning on February 1st, the Valencian government will establish a new public transportation route that will link the Elche-Alicante “Miguel Hernández” airport with the municipalities of Almoradí, Formentera del Segura, Rojales, Guardamar del Segura, and La Marina (Elche).
Bus Sigüenza will supply the service under an emergency contract for a minimum of around a year. It is a component of the public transport services that the regional government intended years ago through its regional transport plan, but which haven’t yet been put out to bid because of their complexity.
Winter Timetable
Every day from September 1 to June 30

Buses from the airport to Almoradí

Note: This schedule is good from February 1, 2026
The Generalitat has set up these emergency contracts for times when a lot of people are expected to want to travel. They are a form of temporary service until the final contracts can be put out to bid.
During the winter, there will be three buses a day leaving from the airport at 10:00, 13:00, and 16:30, and two buses a day leaving from Almoradí at 7:15 and 11:30. In July and August, when the season is at its busiest, the number of services is likely to go up.
This is a service that people in the municipalities of Rojales, Guardamar del Segura, and La Marina, which are popular tourist destinations with a lot of foreign residents, want. Together, these municipalities have about seventy thousand residents, which is a lot of people.
Cut the cost
A cab ride from Vega Baja to Alicante-Elche Airport (Altet) costs about €55 on average right now. There has only been one direct express bus route between Torrevieja and the airport via the freeway, with no stops.
Bus Sigüenza, one of the best passenger transport companies in the area, has given out all the information it has so far, but it is waiting for formal confirmation of ticket costs for each stop. In any event, taking the bus would save you a lot of money compared to taking a taxi, which are hard to find in some of these places, such Formentera del Segura and La Marina.
To the Torrevieja Hospital
The Regional Ministry of Infrastructure is also working on setting up one of these emergency bus routes, which will make sure that people in Guardamar can go to the Torrevieja University Hospital every day. The City Council had to give up the contract it had been giving to the Red Cross. The service was not always available since it overlapped with routes that were already under concession from the Generalitat (Valencian Regional Government). This was because a municipal service was being provided for a public service that is the responsibility of the regional administration.
Announcement
José Luis Sáez (PSOE), the Mayor of Guardamar, announced both the start of work on a new line to the airport and the start of work on another route to the University Hospital.
The PP, which is the opposition to the local PSOE government, was very upset when the latter was removed. The PSOE government responded by saying that the regional ministry had warned them that they could not hire a municipal service that could duplicate another one that was also paid for with public funds.
