The Emergency Coordination Centre said that a 73-year-old Belgian man died while kitesurfing at La Manga del Mar Menor, which is in the municipality of San Javier, on Wednesday, January 28th.
Around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, someone called to say that the man had left the Mar Menor campsite in San Javier to practise kitesurfing and had gone missing when he seemed to be near La Manga.
Local police and a Salvamento Red Cross rescue boat were sent out, and a search was done on land and at sea. The Local Police said that a body had been located in the water, very close to the coast near km 15 of La Manga del Mar Menor, after many hours, around 19:12.
The Guardia Civil, firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Consortium (CEIS) of the Region of Murcia, and an ambulance with 061 emergency medical staff were also there.
After the firefighters found the body, the medical staff confirmed that the person had died.
